Used Simulator Sourcing And Project Management

Build A Better Simulator. Spend Your Budget Wisely.

Independent sourcing, compatibility checking, inspection and project management — from first plan through to a working, calibrated simulator.

The Problem

A Seemingly Good Deal Can Become An Expensive Mistake

Buying a motorsport simulator should be exciting, but it can quickly become confusing and expensive. There are hundreds of possible combinations of chassis, seats, wheelbases, steering wheels, pedals, displays, computers, VR headsets, motion systems, controls and software.

Many products look compatible until you discover that an additional adapter, mounting bracket, control box, power supply or proprietary component is required.

Forrest Motorsport provides an independent used simulator sourcing and project management service. You tell us what you want to achieve, how much you want to spend and how the simulator will be used. We then manage the project from planning through sourcing, purchasing, collection, testing, installation and configuration.

Fixed Fee

One Fixed Project Fee — No Commission

Our service is based around a single fixed project fee agreed before work begins. Rather than earning commission by encouraging you to buy more expensive equipment, we work to protect your budget.

  • Avoid buying the wrong equipment
  • Find genuine value in the used market
  • Understand condition and limitations
  • Identify compatibility problems early
  • Spend where it makes the biggest difference
  • Create a sensible upgrade path
  • Reduce unnecessary spending
  • Avoid replacing equipment twice
  • Complete the project with fewer surprises

In many cases, the cost of one incorrect wheelbase, unsuitable computer or incompatible display setup is greater than the cost of professional advice at the beginning.

Independent

Advice Based On Your Needs — Not One Ecosystem

Different brands suit different users, budgets and applications. A product that is excellent for a home simulator may be wrong for an event business. A system built for permanent installation may be unsuitable for frequent transport. A high-torque wheelbase is unnecessary if the chassis cannot support it.

We look at the entire simulator as one connected system.

  • The driver
  • The intended simulator software
  • Chassis and seating position
  • Wheelbase and steering wheels
  • Pedals and control equipment
  • The computer
  • Display or VR system
  • The available room
  • Electrical and network requirements
  • Transport and storage
  • Reliability and maintenance
  • Future upgrades and resale value

From Brief To First Lap

01

Initial Consultation

We start by understanding exactly what you want from the simulator, so the project is not driven by individual bargains that never add up to the final objective.

  • Total available budget
  • Home, driver training, events or commercial use
  • Preferred disciplines and simulator titles
  • PC, Xbox or PlayStation
  • Available floor space and seating position
  • Single, ultrawide, triple, large-format or VR
  • Static or motion simulation
  • Current and already-considered equipment
  • Driver height and physical requirements
  • Shared use and future upgrade ambitions
  • Delivery and installation requirements
02

Requirements and Budget Plan

We balance investment across the complete system instead of spending most of the budget on one headline component — and identify the costs missing from second-hand listings.

  • Chassis, seat, brackets and runners
  • Wheelbase and mounting
  • Steering wheel, pedals and pedal reinforcement
  • Shifter and handbrake
  • Computer, monitors and stand
  • Cables, USB, network and audio
  • Software, delivery, assembly and configuration
  • Contingency
03

Market Search and Sourcing

We search used markets, industry contacts, specialist groups, trade networks and private sellers — comparing each opportunity against the agreed requirements, not just its asking price.

  • Complete simulator packages
  • Aluminium profile and tubular chassis
  • GT, Formula and convertible cockpits
  • Genuine race car tubs and monocoques
  • Direct drive wheelbases and steering wheels
  • Load cell, hydraulic and active pedals
  • Shifters, handbrakes and sequential controls
  • Seats, runners and brackets
  • Gaming PCs, GPUs and monitors
  • Triple stands, ultrawides and VR headsets
  • Motion actuators and platforms
  • Harnesses, audio and telemetry displays
  • Button boxes and race control equipment
  • Commercial equipment, spares and parts
04

Listing and Seller Assessment

A photograph of a simulator switched on does not demonstrate that every component works. Where appropriate we request cold-start video, calibration footage, pedal traces, force feedback tests, mounting and connector photographs, PC system and storage health information, and confirmation of firmware versions and licences.

05

Value Assessment

A cheaper item is not always better value. A heavily discounted cockpit may need a new seat, wheel deck, pedal plate and monitor mount — at which point a more complete alternative costs less overall.

  • New replacement and current used-market value
  • Age, condition and parts availability
  • Remaining manufacturer support
  • Included accessories and missing components
  • Transport, installation and immediate upgrades
  • Likely resale value and project compatibility
06

Compatibility Check

Some equipment works only within its own ecosystem; other equipment combines across brands when connected separately to a PC. Consoles are considerably more restrictive. We identify these limits before money changes hands.

  • Wheelbase-to-chassis mounting (front, side, bottom)
  • Quick release generation and wheel connection
  • Pedal connection method
  • Console, PC and software support
  • Driver and firmware availability
  • VESA pattern, monitor size, weight and resolution
  • Graphics outputs, USB capacity and power supply
  • Motion compatibility, chassis strength and payload
  • Harness mounting, driver access and cable routing
  • Emergency stop, network and audio requirements
07

Negotiation and Purchase Support

We help you prepare a sensible offer based on condition, completeness, transport, warranty and time on the market. The objective is a fair price — not an unrealistic lowball. Depending on the arrangement you buy directly from the seller or we coordinate the transaction.

08

Collection and Delivery Planning

Saving money on a used purchase has little benefit if the equipment is damaged during collection. We plan vehicle size, loading access, stairs, door and lift dimensions, disassembly, monitor protection, packaging, insurance and reassembly.

09

Inspection and Testing

Where inspection forms part of the agreed scope we assess chassis and cockpit structure, wheelbase startup, calibration and force feedback output, pedal sensors and load cells, PC specification, thermals and storage health, panel and backlight condition, and motion actuators, controllers and safety equipment.

Specification

PC, Software And Content Planning

PC Specification And Performance

The computer is one of the most common areas of overspending. A PC suitable for a single 1080p display may be unsuitable for triple screens or VR — and a single-monitor user running older titles may not need a flagship graphics card. We specify around the actual workload: titles, resolution, frame rate, streaming, recording, telemetry, race control, motion software, SimHub and future upgrades.

Software, Content And Titles

We help you understand the differences between Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, iRacing, rFactor 2, RaceRoom, Le Mans Ultimate, EA Sports WRC, Richard Burns Rally, BeamNG.drive, karting and historic titles, and specialist driver training software — then plan purchase order, DLC, subscriptions, mods, control and force feedback configuration, telemetry, motion profiles and backups.

We do not recommend suspicious software keys or unlicensed software. For commercial installations, consumer licences may not cover public or revenue-generating use.

Typical Scenarios

Where The Money Usually Goes Wrong

The following examples are illustrative. Actual budgets, prices and savings depend on the equipment available at the time.

The First Direct Drive Simulator

A £2,500 budget and a £900 high-torque wheelbase already chosen — attached to a lightweight folding cockpit. We rebalance towards a rigid used chassis, better pedals and a sensible PC, with a clear upgrade path.

The Apparently Complete Used Rig

A £3,200 package with mismatched monitors, no stand, insufficient GPU outputs, a missing wheelbase bracket and damaged seat runner. We calculate the completed cost before you commit.

The Console Compatibility Mistake

A PlayStation user finds a wheelbase and wheel package designed primarily for PC. We identify the platform requirements and recommend a compatible alternative.

The Triple-Screen Upgrade

Before buying triple 32in panels we assess room, stand width, VESA, resolution, refresh rate, GPU outputs, cables, viewing distance and driver access.

The Used Gaming PC

A strong graphics card hiding an older processor, limited storage, unknown power supply and inadequate cooling. We review the complete specification, not the headline part.

The Premium Used Build

Used chassis, used premium wheelbase and professional pedals, new mounting hardware and displays. Buying everything used is not always the best approach.

The Motion Simulator Opportunity

Actuators, controller, licences, payload, electrical supply, emergency stop, service history and transport all checked. Motion is only good value if it can be safely installed and supported.

The Long-Distance Purchase

Additional photographs, video testing, seller questions, vehicle requirements, partial disassembly, tools, loading and reassembly. Collection is part of the project, not an afterthought.

The Shared Family Simulator

Adults and younger drivers need seat, pedal and reach adjustment, safe torque settings and simple driver profiles. The best simulator is the one its drivers can actually use.

The Driver Training Simulator

Seating position, consistent pedals, accurate circuit content, telemetry and repeatable settings matter more than maximum force feedback or motion.

The Commercial Simulator Venue

Four different used rigs means four sets of firmware, spares, calibration procedures and customer experiences. We consider standardisation, uptime, maintenance and rapid recovery.

The Event Simulator Fleet

Setup and breakdown time, vehicle capacity, flight cases, cable identification, quick-release connections, spares and storage footprint — selected for the environment it operates in.

The Abandoned Simulator Project

Parts already bought that do not fit together. We audit what exists, identify what can be kept and plan the shortest route to a working simulator.

The Upgrade That Is Not Needed

A more powerful wheelbase rarely fixes inconsistent pedals, a poor seating position or an unstable chassis. Good consultancy sometimes means advising you not to buy.

Terms

Fixed Fee, Clear Scope

Reviewing three listings is a different level of support from sourcing, delivering and commissioning a simulator fleet. Before work begins we agree:

  • The project objective
  • The available budget
  • The services included
  • The geographical area
  • The expected project period
  • The fixed consultancy fee
  • Any delivery, travel or installation costs
  • Any services charged separately

There are no surprise consultancy charges. Third-party equipment, delivery and external services remain subject to availability and the relevant seller or supplier terms.

Important Information About Used Equipment

Used equipment naturally carries more uncertainty than new. We use our experience to reduce risk, but no visual assessment or short test can guarantee that equipment will never develop a fault. Where possible we recommend obtaining an accurate written description, proof of purchase, serial numbers, test evidence, details of known faults and previous repairs, and confirmation of included components.

Equipment bought privately may provide fewer consumer protections than equipment bought from a business. We will explain any material concerns we identify so you can make an informed decision.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you sell the simulator equipment?

Sometimes we may have suitable equipment available, but the main purpose of this service is independent sourcing and project management. Where equipment is being sold directly by Forrest Motorsport, this will be made clear.

Can you guarantee that I will save money?

We cannot guarantee a specific saving because prices, availability and requirements vary. Our objective is to prevent unnecessary spending and help you obtain the strongest possible result from your budget.

Can you find a complete simulator?

Yes. We can search for complete systems or create a simulator from individually sourced components.

Is it better to buy a complete rig or separate components?

It depends on condition, specification, compatibility and price. A complete package can offer good value, but it can also include components that are unsuitable or hard to resell. Building from separate components gives more control but may take longer.

Do you only work with expensive simulators?

No. Professional advice can be particularly valuable on lower budgets because there is less room for mistakes.

Can you inspect equipment before I buy it?

This depends on location, access, seller cooperation and the agreed project scope. Where physical inspection is not practical, we review photographs, videos, specifications and seller responses.

Can you help with delivery?

Yes. We can assist with collection and delivery planning, and where agreed we may coordinate transport.

Can you build and install the simulator?

Yes. Assembly, installation and configuration can be included in the project scope.

Can you upgrade my existing simulator?

Yes. We can audit your current equipment, identify the most useful improvements and create a staged upgrade plan.

Can you help a commercial simulator business?

Yes. Individual simulators, multi-rig venues, event fleets, driver training installations and specialist projects.

Can you help with software?

Yes. We can help select, install and configure simulator software, supporting applications, telemetry and driver profiles.

Can you source equipment anywhere in the UK?

We can search nationally, but collection, travel and installation arrangements depend on the project and equipment location.
